Whooping cough in the USA-Ohio
Friday 16-Nov-2007

46 students in the Worthington City School district in Ohio have been diagnosed with whooping cough. Sporadic outbreaks of whooping cough (pertussis) continue to occur in developed countries either because of failure to complete childhood vaccination protocols or because of the germ being brought in by travellers from less developed countries. Infant and pre-school vaccination is not sufficient for full protection in adult life. There is a new adult tetanus vaccine that also includes a booster for whooping cough. All travellers who need a tetanus booster should consider receiving this new vaccine prior to travel.

We recommend that you consult one of our clinics as soon
as your itinerary is known so that a program of vaccination can be planned.
