Dengue Fever in Brazil
Friday 16-Nov-2007

The number of cases of Dengue fever in Brazil has reached a staggering 481 300 as of October this year - this is an increase of 50% on 2006 figures. The states of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo have shown significant increases in disease activity this year. Travellers to this region should be aware of the current situation and ensure they take good quality insect repellant with them. The mosquito that carries Dengue is a day time biter and the only prevention is the use of insect repellants to avoid being bitten. Unfortunately a vaccine against Dengue fever is still at least 5 years away.

We recommend that you consult one of our clinics as soon
as your itinerary is known so that a program of vaccination can be planned.
