The Indonesian Ministry of Health has announced a new case of human infection with avian influenza. A 6 year old girl from Banten province became unwell on June 23rd and was admitted to hospital on July 5th. She died on July 8th. It appears that she was infected as a result of contact with ill chickens near her school. There have now been 102 confirmed human cases of avian influenza in Indonesia and 81 have been fatal.
