Worldwide - Rabies Vaccine Recall
8 April 2004
As a very precautionary measure the manufacturers of the HDCV rabies vaccine, Aventis Pasteur recalled numerous batches of rabies vaccine that had been distributed world-wide. Routine testing on an unreleased batch of the rabies detected contamination in the batch. The manufacturers have recalled all batches made around the same time even though they passed all tests prior to release.
For patients seen at a Travel Doctor clinic for their rabies vaccinations, your Yellow Vaccination record contains a section towards the back of the booklet listing the batch numbers you received. The batch numbers that have been recalled in New Zealand are X0074-3, X0074-4 and X0713-1. For people who received a rabies vaccine outside of a Travel Doctor clinic, between October '03 - April '04, you will need to get in touch with your medical centre to find out the batch number of the rabies vaccine you where given.
