Travel Security During Insecure Times

In a world where sudden events can make travel arrangements uncertain it is very important that you take control of those factors which you can control.
Make sure that someone at home has your detailed itinerary and inform them of changes. It is partularly important for family or relatives to be aware of flights and accommodation.
Establish an email account you can access through the Internet anywhere; consider internationally connected mobile phone.
Re-confirm flights just in case flights are oversubscribed
Take out maximum insurance even if the company excludes "acts of war"
Co-operate with airport security measures and don’t carry on board objects that may not pass the detectors - it wastes everybody’s time and makes you and other people quite nervous
If you have medication make sure you have more than enough for the estimated time away from home in case of delays
Pick itineraries sensibly and stay abreast of current news
