The Travel Doctor Associate

The Associate option for general practice allows interested medical practices to enhance and promote the delivery of travel medicine within their own practice, in association with The Travel Doctor Group.

The Travel Doctor (TMVC) has been providing high quality travel medicine services in Australia and New Zealand and South East Asia since the mid 1980’s. In the last few years it has developed a number of strategic relationships overseas which allow for better communications and services to the corporate sector. Busy general practitioners, seeing a significant proportion of travelling patients require access to up-to-date travel health information and best value travel health products. I feel the Travel Doctor Associate option meets these needs.

General practices that choose to become a Travel Doctor Associate receive:

Either

Their own general practice version of Walkabout 2000© ver 3.1, a fully computerised Travel Medicine Clinic Management system - the only data base designed and developed in Australasia, for travellers and their doctors.

This program provides important information for the medical practitioner and traveller including relevant destination information, current vaccination and malaria prophylaxis recommendations and Foreign Affairs "Travel Advisories".

Updated on a regular basis, Walkabout 2000© ver 3.1allows the medical practitioner to provide country-specific health risk printouts on the spot as well as instantly generate all their travel health requirements.

Walkabout 2000© ver 3.1 has a number of innovative features to help the physician promote his/her expertise in the field of travel medicine while at the same time providing a permanent travel record on all their travelling patients.

The database also allows you to track your travelling patients and be part of a TMVC group research project. This enhances excellence of service and provides an opportunity for primary care practitioners to be involved in many aspects of public health research. A post travel component will be available in version 4 of the programme.

Or

Their own general practice version of Walkabout MD©. This cut down version of Walkabout 2000 has been developed by the Travel Doctor Group in consultation with a large number of primary care medical practitioner. It does not retain patient records but provides important information for both traveller and doctor including relevant destination information as well as details on all recommended vaccines and antimalarials. Updated on a regular basis via the TMVC Group Website (www.tmvc-group.com), Walkabout MD © allows the medical practitioner to provide health risk printouts on the spot as well as instantly generate all their travel health requirements.

Plus

  • A copy of the TMVC Vaccination Manual for Travel Medicine Practitioners. This is also available in a web browser format on CD. A number of other travel medicine applications are also available on the CD.

  • Access to the full range of TMVC healthy travel products. Our range of healthy travel products includes tropical strength repellents, nets, permethrin and a wide range of TMVC travellers medical kits suited to all types of travel.

  • Email access during business hours to an experienced Travel Doctor Group travel medical specialist for clarification of difficulties and assistance with complex travel itineraries, vaccine concerns and pre-existing medical problems.

  • Promotion and advertising of your service as a Travel Doctor Associate, including the right to use the Travel Doctor logo in approved practice promotional material and advertising.

  • Initial 'starter-pack', including 50 International Certificate of Vaccination books, Walkabout 2000© ver 3.1and a training manual or Walkabout MD © (depending upon the option selected), Product Order forms, 30 International Health Guides and 10 Travelling Well Books.

  • One hundred (3 months supply) of the TMVC Travel Medicine Record (TMR).

The benefits to your practice as a Travel Doctor Group Associate are:

  • Easy access to up to date travel medicine advice. Advice, which is provided by an international travel medicine group with a proven track record over many years

  • Support from the leading practitioners in the field

  • Time savings to you and your patient

  • Promotion of your practice as part of the Travel Doctor (TMVC) network

  • Participation in relevant research programmes

  • Happy and healthy travellers

  • Corporate recognition of your services

Requirements for Selection as a Travel Doctor Group Associate:

  • Recognition as a quality general practice with an active interest in travel and tropical medicine/ public health medicine and a desire to enhance the level of service provided.

  • A willingness to work in partnership with Australasia’s only international travel medicine group, TMVC to promote your services to your travelling patients.

  • Acceptance of the terms of the license to use the service- provider version of Walkabout 2000© ver 3.1 including an annual license fee.

  • A minimum number of travel services provided each 3 month period- suggested minimum is 40 per month, ie 120 travellers every 3 months. This is necessary to maintain a level of expertise in the field of travel medicine. An annual figure 400 – 600 travel patients equates to a small provider of travel medicine services internationally.

For those medical practices that become Associates, the link between the practice and the Travel Doctor Group will strengthen the resources available and add significant service benefits to the travelling clientele of that practice in the local area.

As a Travel Doctor Associate your practice will have the dual benefits of informative and current travel medicine information from Walkabout 2000 © ver 3.1 and the know how to develop a "one-stop shop" service for all the required vaccines, anti-malarials and healthy travel products recommended for the traveller. It is anticipated that the Travel Doctor Associate will become the leading service provider for travel medicine services in the area.
