Medical Director: Dr Tony Gherardin
Currently the National Medical Director of the Travellers' Medical and Vaccination Centre Group. Prior to joining the company he worked for three years as Medical Officer in charge of the Australian Embassy medical clinic in Beijing, China. His wide-ranging experience with expatriates overseas also includes work as a physician for a number of Australian Government departments on Cocos (Keeling) Islands for 2 years. Before his stint to China, Dr Gherardin was responsible for the early development of the TMVC Melbourne Clinic and is currently developing the TMVC Royal Melbourne Centre as a research institute specialising in international health and travel medicine.
Tony is particularly interested in the health-related concerns of expatriates on short and long term overseas postings who share a different range of illnesses and stresses. He has travelled widely over the last ten years and continues to communicate with various international colleagues whose responsibility involves expatriate families. His paper entitled "Malaria distribution in P.R. China - implications for prophylaxis" at the 4th International Society of Travel Medicine meeting in Mexico in 1995 has resulted in major changes to prescribing behavior world-wide. Dr Gherardin's broad experience in both urban and rural general practice allows the Group to provide support of regional and isolated medical practitioners.
