Occupational Health and Rehabilitation Services
The Travel Doctor Newcastle is the travel medicine arm of Health Services Australia in the Newcastle region. The clinic also provides extensive services in occupational health and rehabilitation management.
Health Services Australia (HSA) is an incorporated Government Business Enterprise (GBE) providing a comprehensive range of work-related health services to clients in both the public and private sector.
Australia Wide Services
The Company has offices located in every capital city and a number of provincial areas around Australia, with the head office based in Canberra. Health Services Australia’s nationwide reach is enhanced by the provision of visiting country clinics and the establishment of a network of sub-contracted doctors providing services in remote and rural areas.
In 2000-2001 the Company conducted over 230,000 health assessments. Health Services Australia capacity and capability to provide high quality, independent health assessments and related advice is a result of:
over 20 years of experience;
concentration on the core business of providing medical assessments;
the ‘intellectual property’ developed over the 20 years working in this area which rests within the Company; and
investments in staff, technology, equipment and research all focussed on increasing Health Services Australia’s expertise and knowledge in the area of health assessments.
Specific services we offer include:
Pre-recruitment Suitability Screening
Medical, psychological and physical fitness assessments are undertaken to assess a candidate’s suitability for a job. The aim is to reduce compensation claims and work related injuries by ensuring the candidate is medically, physically and psychologically fit to undertake the work he/she is being recruited for.
Injury/Illness Intervention & Rehabilitation
We offer a full range of services to assist employers and employees from the moment an injury or illness occurs through to appropriate rehabilitation. This may be in the form of early intervention programs, in which employees are referred for rehabilitation as soon as the injury occurs, or return to work programs in cases where employees have been on sick leave. We also conduct medical and psychological assessments, manage long term ‘stuck’ cases, provide medico-legal advice and reports, and assist with case/claims management.
Health and Fitness Screening
Health and fitness programs are tailored to meet specific Company requirements. This could entail general lifestyle assessments targeting all employees, or executive health screenings to detect the risk of executives developing heart problems. Our aim is to enhance the health of employees by identifying any health problems and advising of ways to improve general health.
